Ana Mimi, Anthropologist based in Japan and Morocco. Anthropology and art have something in common, they both offer countless ways to interpret the world. Neither seeks a single right answer. Instead, they cast a different light on the reality in front of us, giving shape to experiences that don't yet have a name.



My research focuses on artists and their practices in urban Morocco today. Making something with your hands is one of the most primitive human acts, and yet it is simultaneously institutional and non-institutional, an extension of history, a fight against something, an emotion for someone. All of these layers coexist within a single work, a single practice — my work as I see it, is to untangle those layers, to describe them as they are, folded into one another. I never imagined Morocco would become this close.
